How to Permanently Block Porn on iPhone Without Losing Wi-Fi or Data for Other Apps
3 min read · Updated September 2026
A reasonable worry before turning on any restriction: will this somehow break my Wi-Fi, eat into my data plan, or slow other apps down? With Limit Adult Websites specifically, the answer is no — it isn't a network setting at all.
This restriction has nothing to do with your network
Limit Adult Websites filters what a page shows, not how your phone connects to the internet.
Content & Privacy Restrictions works by filtering specific web content as it loads — it has no relationship to Wi-Fi, cellular data, Airplane Mode, or your carrier plan. Turning it on doesn't change how your iPhone connects to anything, and it doesn't touch data usage for apps that have nothing to do with adult content.
What it does affect, and what it doesn't
The only thing that changes is that specific web content is blocked across every browser on the device. Banking apps, maps, messaging, streaming, everything else keeps working on the exact same connection and data plan as before. If something else on your phone stops working after you set this up, it isn't this setting causing it.
A content filter and a network setting live in completely different parts of Settings, and turning on one never quietly reaches into the other.
The setting that actually does touch network changes
If you're thinking of a different concern — locking down whether Wi-Fi or Cellular Data settings can be changed at all — that's a separate, optional toggle under Screen Time's Allowed Changes section, unrelated to Limit Adult Websites. You'd have to turn that on deliberately; it's never a side effect of blocking adult content.
The full setup for the restriction itself is covered in our main iPhone guide, including how to make sure the passcode behind it can't just be reset. ScreenVow secures that passcode without touching anything else on your phone — see the setup guide for the full picture.
Frequently asked questions
Will blocking adult websites affect my Wi-Fi or cellular data?
No. Limit Adult Websites filters specific web content — it doesn't touch your Wi-Fi connection, cellular data, or data usage for other apps in any way.
Will other apps stop working properly once this is on?
No. Apps unrelated to adult content — banking, maps, messaging, everything else — continue working exactly as before, on the same network and data plan.
Is there a setting that does restrict Wi-Fi or cellular data changes?
Yes, but it's separate and optional: Screen Time's Allowed Changes section has its own toggles for Cellular Data Changes, which you'd have to turn on deliberately — it isn't part of Limit Adult Websites at all.
Ready to make it stick?
