How to Permanently Block Porn Without Installing Any App
3 min read · Updated September 2026
A lot of people assume permanently blocking porn on an iPhone requires downloading something — a filter app, a parental control tool, a browser replacement. It doesn't. The most effective option is already sitting in Settings.
The strongest restriction is the one already installed
Content & Privacy Restrictions, under Settings → Screen Time, is built directly into iOS. Turning on Limit Adult Websites blocks the same content a third-party filter would, across every browser on the device, with no download, no account creation on another service, and no separate app taking up space or battery.
Why adding an app can make things weaker, not stronger
Every extra app you install is one more thing sitting between you and the restriction that can be uninstalled.
A third-party blocking app is, itself, just an app — it can be deleted from the home screen, have its permissions turned off in Settings, or simply be worked around by using a browser it doesn't monitor. Apple's own restriction doesn't have that weak point, because it isn't a removable piece of software sitting on top of iOS. It's a setting inside iOS itself, protected by its own passcode.
Nothing you can uninstall was ever going to be the part that made a restriction permanent.
What not installing an app still doesn't solve
The setting itself takes about two minutes to turn on — see our full walkthrough for iPhone. The part that actually determines whether it lasts is whether you know the passcode protecting it, and whether Screen Time Passcode Recovery is switched off. No app, installed or not, changes either of those.
ScreenVow works with the setting that's already on your phone — it doesn't add an app to your home screen at all. It generates and encrypts the passcode for the built-in restriction so there's nothing extra to install, delete, or work around. See how the encryption works or the full setup guide.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download a blocking app to stop porn on my iPhone?
No. Apple's Content & Privacy Restrictions, built into Settings, blocks adult websites without installing anything extra.
Are third-party blocking apps less reliable than the built-in setting?
They add an extra thing that can be deleted, force-quit, or have its own permissions revoked. The built-in restriction can't be removed the way an app can — only turned off through the same Screen Time passcode.
What's the one thing not installing an app doesn't fix?
Knowing your own Screen Time passcode. Whether you use an app or not, if you can recall or reset that passcode yourself, the restriction is only ever a few taps from being undone.
Ready to make it stick?
ScreenVow holds your Screen Time passcode for you, so the decision can't be undone on impulse.
